Biotope is a small architecture company that combines the field of architecture with a deep passion for nature. Our architectural solutions, ideas, and concepts are built on both an understanding of and care for nature. We design nature shelters, bird hides, photography hides, outdoor classrooms, cabins, and more. We love engaging in nature conservation and ecotourism projects.

Biotope was founded in Vardø, Arctic Norway, in 2009. Since then, we have played a key role in shaping Varanger into a premier destination for nature lovers, birders, and ecotourists. Through our work, we have helped establish birdwatching infrastructure, create strategic conservation initiatives, and promote Varanger as a world-class nature destination. Our efforts extend far beyond architecture—we collaborate with local communities, businesses, and conservationists to develop sustainable tourism and ensure that nature remains at the center of everything we do.

We are very happy to re-launch our Varanger guidebook after being out of print for five years. This book is the result of many years of research and work in Varanger. The book is covering all the best birding sites in the region. Our goal is to help visiting birders and nature enthusiasts explore Varanger and make the most of their visit.
